Published: January 01, 0001 Reading Time: Approx. 8 mins
Sony’s original PS3 Slim price drop ad may have pleased gamers, but it pissed off the entire nation of Nigeria. As we reported, the ad was pulled, Yono all app and now a reworked version has hit the airwaves. https://kotaku.com/report-nigerian-govt-upset-over-new-playstation-ads-u-5354732(new Image()).src = 'https://capi.connatix.com/tr/si?token=995c4c7d-194f-4077-b0a0-7ad466eb737c&cid=872d12ce-453b-4870-845f-955919887e1b'; cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "995c4c7d-194f-4077-b0a0-7ad466eb737c" }).render("79703296e5134c75a2db6e1b64762017"); }); In the original ad, Sony’s fictional director of rumor confirmation stated, “You can’t believe everything you read on the internet. Otherwise, I’d be a Nigerian millionaire by now.” According to reports citing a statement from Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Communication, Prof. Dora Akunyili, the African republic is up in all yono app arms over Sony’s latest PS3 ad [[link]] campaign. Specifically, it appears one line from one go rummy of the commercials is an “unwarranted attack on the reputation and image of the country” according to Nigeria’s federal government. The government demanded an apology from Sony Computer Entertainment. The official PlayStation web site ran this apology: “It has come to our attention that a recent TV advertisement for PlayStation may have offended some members of [[link]] the Nigerian community. We never intended to create a [[link]] situation that would upset anyone, and we have taken action to immediately remove the advertisement from the air. We apologize to anyone this may have offended.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyVhP46xCQw The newly reworked ad features no mention of Nigeria, but instead features this line: “You can’t believe everything you read on the internet. That’s how World War I got started.” Wait until World War I hears about this, Sony. It’s gonna be so pissed. Thanks, Max! [Pic]
